When introduced in 2008 the new regulations regarding Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) were met with understandable resistance across an industry already experiencing some of the worst trading conditions for many years. Since then however the public awareness of energy efficiency and the benefits of low energy buildings has increased considerably. EPCs provide an ‘at a glance’ guide to a property’s energy credentials which in essence is a measure of how modern the building fabric and heating/electrical systems are.
What is an EPC?
An EPC contains:
- information about a property’s energy use and typical energy costs; and
- recommendations about how to reduce energy use and save money.
An EPC gives a property an energy efficiency rating from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient) and is valid for 10 years.
